Handcrafted Homemade Bread

The Garden

"From our Farm to your plate," that is what we try and accomplish here at Baillie Farm but for us that doesn't always seem to be enough. We like to know every intimate detail of where our food is grown and we want you to know the same, from how its made to who in the world are these "farmers" anyway? This Farming the Land page hopes to show you an inside scoop about everything we're doing, to how we make those delicious handcrafted breads.

Farming the Land

We wanted to start giving people a look at what exactly we mean by "sustainable" farming. So what does Sustainably Grown actually mean here at Baillie Farm? Sustainably Grown means that we use Organic practices to grow our crops AND environmentally conscious methods to get there. At Baillie Farm we use a gravity fed water system out of our pond to water our crops. Most of our crops are grown in raised beds and we use composted manure from our cattle herd to really get things started. We have started this farm based off of many different techniques, one being Permaculture which holds much value in today's waning acres of land. We began implementing Permaculture by heavily inducing the crop rows with compost in order to grow our plants much closer together. The idea behind this technique is that we are able to use less land to grow more food AND all those plants cover the bare soil providing a "living mulch" henceforth reducing water evaporation, wasted growing space, & our time! We'll keep you posted on how that is going.

As the summer goes on we will be posting more, but please email us with questions!

Grass Fed Cattle

Free Range Chickens

We found an affinity for making homemade bread by accident as most people do.  All we were originally striving for was to be more self-sufficient and so we started turning out small loaves of bread in our tiny apartment before moving out to Baillie Farm. Things have taken off since then so we hope you'll enjoy our bread as much as we do.

What we Bake

So far we have been sticking to some of our most favorite bread recipes in order to streamline our baking process since, well, we use a conventional oven. We do not purchase our baked goods and make EVERYTHING from scratch at our Farm the day of purchase. We try and use only the finest of ingredient and have made a pledge to use King Arthur Flours as well as organic ingredients wherever we can. We use no preservatives, no artificial ingredients, and most importantly no Genetically Modified flours.  Since our breads are all Natural, if you have purchased any of our breads please take care to preserve the loaves the best you can by putting them in the refrigerator and not on your counter.

Our most popular breads have been our Baillie Farm...

  • Artisan Bread
  • White Sourdough Bread
  • Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread
  • Farmhouse Molasses Bread
  • French Bread Baguette

We make so much more at the Farm and will release new Baked goods throughout the summer.
